It's every parent's worst nightmare: a thief breaks into your home and sexually assaults your child. This is a nightmare that one young boy in our community recently lived through.
The boy, who is under the age of 10, was home alone when the thief entered the house through an unlocked door. Once inside, the thief found the boy and sexually assaulted him.
The boy is now safe and receiving counseling and support, but the trauma of this experience will stay with him for a long time. As parents, we can only imagine how this boy is feeling and we are doing everything we can to support him.
This incident is a stark reminder of the importance of keeping our homes and our families safe. We must be vigilant about locking our doors and windows, and teaching our children about stranger danger. We must also be there for our children if they ever experience something as traumatic as this young boy has.
